What's New for the 2025 Subaru Forester?

For the new model year, the new Forester gets a new exterior styling with an update to its chassis. Subaru says this update will also bring a new electric power steering rack and a new foot-activated hands-free power tailgate. Additionally, drivers can still expect to find the same powertrain and standard all-wheel drive models.

Performance

Subaru has opted to keep the Forester powertrain unchanged for the new model year. Thus, its 2.5-liter flat-four cylinder with a continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive are still standard. Though the engine is unchanged, the output it offers is different. The horsepower dips to 180, but the torque increases to 178. By comparison, the Forester's output was 182 horsepower and 176 lbs.-torque last year.

Technology

The updated cabin of the Subaru Forester also features new technology, one of which is an update to the model STARLINK Multimedia system. The base model will have the system running on a dual seven-inch display, while higher trims will utilize the new 11.6-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on both monitors, but only the 11.6-inch screen has wireless functionality. Other technology found in the new Forester includes an integrated navigation system and a wireless charging pad.

Design

The newly redesigned Forester sees several changes, and one of them is the 19-inch alloy wheels on the Touring trim, which is a first for the model. With its larger wheels, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, the Forester will now offer better control over rough terrain or in bad weather.

As for the cabin, drivers will find the mid-tier trims offer a leather-wrapped gear selector and heated-and-ventilated front seats. Many will also appreciate the new panoramic moonroof, which adds more light to the cabin.

There's also an expanded cargo area. Now, the Forester can have 74.4 cubic feet of space when the seats are folded flat. The new hands-free powered tailgate makes access to the area a breeze.

Fuel Economy

The Forester will offer the same fuel economy as no significant changes have been made to the engine. In testing, the EPA found that the Forester got around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. However, in the Sport and Touring trims, these numbers dip by one one mpg in each category.

Safety

Whether you're driving down the highway or across a trail, the new Forester will keep you safe thanks to EyeSight, Subaru's suite of camera-based features. In this bundle, drivers will find adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. In models like the Sport or Touring, more advanced features like blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, and a driver monitoring system are available.
